ORSU Women vs. Seattle September 9th, 2006

Match Report:

Angie Concepcion opened the scoring at 4 minutes when she deftly gathered a chip kick from the Hollie Petrie. Pretty Clower';s conversion was close, but no good. Anna Symonds added her own try 4 minutes later this time when she picked up Amy Hess's pop kick at her own 10 meter dotted down 60 meters later. Clower's conversion was good.

Sixteen minutes in ORSU struck again as flyhalf Toni Will delayed a pass until the Seattle backline bit, and then fed a lurking Becky Royce (#7) who after beating the Seattle fullback went through from the 22 meter. Clower hit the conversion.

Seattle's forwards created a maul about 7 meters out from the ORSU goalline and the hooker was able to finish the maul with a score under the posts and flyhalf Marty Quick converted the try at the 24 minute work.

ORSU responded four minutes later as Concepcion dotted down from a first phase movement after the defense collapsed on Suzy Mangels, who was able to unload the pass to Angie, wide open on the wing. Clower's conversion was no good. Anna then matched the score rate by finishing a movement involving many offloads in the tackles, started by a half break from Hollie Petrie off loading to Suzy Mangels so again off-loaded to Jamie Laut and finally into Anna's hands for the try five minutes later.

ORSU finished their first half scoring when Petrie took a ball 80 meters with Clower converting.

Many substitutions occured in the second half and the match changed slightly with each teams scoring twice.

ORSU got their scores in before Seattle with the first coming off a quick tap off a Seattle infraction spun out to the filling Amy Hess at the 52nd minute. Conversion missed. The second came at the 65th minute from a dummy 1/2 scissor set up nicely by Mary Castle, leaving Mangels with lots of space and time to offload to Hess. Giselle Gutknecht converted the score.

Seattle's scores came at the 69th minute and 74th minute with the first coming from a quick tap by inside center moved to flyhalf Scooter and the second one came from Quick scoring in the corner after after multi-phase ball.

This is the first ever ORSU victory in Seattle!!!  And the Jesters did it with authority.  We need a big win next weekend against the Mudhens in Seattle to secure the #1 spot in the Northwest and to advance us to the Sweet 16's.

ORSU Women vs. Mudhens August 26, 2006

Game Review:

ORSU Women played the Mudhens this weekend at Westmoreland Park.  The Mudhens were without many of their starters, but still managed to come down with a full side, plus a couple reserves.  The game started off with a Mudhens break through the ORSU backline, but a knock-on by the Mudhens #12 and some quick reactions by ORSU turned our miscue into a Try.  So, with 2 minutes gone in the game, ORSU was up 5-0.  Shortly after that, ORSU made a great break and were able to put another try down under the uprights, which was converted to make it 12-0.  With about 20 minutes gone in the 1st half, ORSU was able to put down another try to put the score at 19-0.  But, ORSU let down momentarily and allowed the Mudhens #12 to break the defensive line and run the ball 50 metes for a try, which was converted.  With 18 minutes to go in the half, the score was now 19-7.  ORSU tried to attack the weak side, but turned the ball over with no one back to help defend the break.  Mudhens #9 put up a smart kick and chase which resulted in a 60 meter run down the sideline. ORSU #12 put it in high gear to chase down their speedy scrumhalf and save the try.  ORSU fought hard to keep the Mudhens out of the try zone and eventually was able to kick the ball out to safety.  2 more tries in the first half for ORSU left it at 31-7 at halftime.  The second half, ORSU was able to start subbing in a few of their newer players in order to get them some experience in DI games.  With 7 subs, ORSU was able to bring fresh legs on and continue to score.  The end of the game was 53-7 ORSU.  A great game and effort by the Mudhens who where without a majority of their starters.  This was a fantastic opportunity for ORSU to shake off the summer cobwebs and get ready for Seattle in 2 weeks.  Thanks to everyone who came out and supported the women.  A special thanks to Rod Will for lining the field, setting up flags and filing in the HUGE wholes on the pitch.

Player of the Game:
Selected by the Mudhens:  Anna Symonds
Selected by ORSU:  Pretty Clower
